LHUSD applies for Federal and State Funds to support the District's mission by pursuing opportunities for external funding through submission of both traditional federal and state-aid applications, as well as for new and innovative grant opportunities. The goal is to seek funding to support and stimulate growth by empowering the District to develop effective instructional strategies and programs to achieve District goals.

This office also provides assistance to the District by analyzing and interpreting Federal and State regulations and legislation pertaining to the Arizona Department of Education and the US Department of Education. Various federal, state, and private funding source applications are researched, developed, prepared, and managed through collaborative efforts with the schools throughout the district.

The purpose of Title I-Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (signed into law on December 10, 2015, replacing No Child Left Behind) is to “provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps”. Title I provides technical assistance, service, and support to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools to help ensure every child has access to an excellent education.

Title I funds schools in need based on student enrollment, the free and reduced lunch percentage for each school, and other informative data. You can fill out a free/reduced meal application to ensure the district continues to receive funds for this program.

Effective Teachers and Leaders (Title II-A) is responsible for increasing student academic achievement through strategies to: improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders; increase the number of teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders. Effective Teachers and Leaders staff work closely with Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to provide guidance, strategies, and resources to:

• Improve the effectiveness of teachers and leaders
• Achieve equitable access to effective teachers
• Support targeted professional development based on identified needs
• Assist with the implementation of the Arizona Framework for Measuring Educator Effectiveness

Title III funds are Federal grant funds administered by the Arizona Department of Education to eligible entities in the state to help ensure that English learners, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement in English. Funds are to be used to provide supplemental programming and services to improve the education of English learners through effective professional development activities which improve the knowledge and skills of staff responsible for providing instruction and also to promote parental, family, and community participation in language instruction educational programs for eligible English learners.
